To anyone who is considering going to the School of Computing, NUS, and major in Communications and Media, DON'T.
It's so seriously fucked-up you're going to have to beg for modules to clear for graduation, realise that the "long list" of electives and core modules is just a facade (a lot of modules are repeated in each category, and level 4000 NM modules are basically out if you have a poor CAP to start with), deal with clashing core modules even when there are already so few core modules in the first place, realise last minute that they removed your core module from the course schedule last minute stealthily and thus mess up your plans, and basically live through the last few semesters of your university life worrying about having to delay graduation. And you probably would have to delay graduation. Unless you plan like super early.
And it's not even worth that effort, because you know what? CM grads have the lowest employment rate amongst the whole of computing. Actually, they are the second lowest in the whole of NUS, losing to Environmental Engineering. And you also get the lowest median starting salary for the whole of NUS, at $2.5K, on par with arts and science. So why not just go to arts and have an easier time?!
My advice, DON'T MAJOR IN CM IN NUS COS YOU'LL REGRET IT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Go somewhere else that deserves your effort, time and money more, and will reap you more benefits than this bullshit of a major.
